The Bumper Shot

Sure, why not? Why not have a bit of fun with your HS senior pictures, and create your very own personal “Bumper Shot?”

From Wikipedia: “In broadcasting, a commercial bumper, ident bumper or break-bumper (often shortened to bump) is a brief announcement, usually two to 15 seconds in length that can contain a voice over, placed between a pause in the program and its commercial break, and vice versa.

In pop culture today, the images of the host of Saturday Night Live that you see between the commercial break and the return of the show, are commonly referred to as “the bumper shot.”  The unique image of the host, often with very animated expressions and body language, will occasionally employ the use of props, doing something zany. The lighting, background, and color post-processing create such a unique look, it’s become iconic in its appearance, and greatly admired for its artistic value.

Some seniors have asked if we can recreate that look for a shot or two, so they can have some fun of their own. Well, with all due respect to the photographer(s) who’ve coined “the bumper shot look” at SNL, we’ve begun experimenting with it. It’s not perfect, but is not meant to be. It’s a knock-off, but a pretty convincing one if I say so myself. SNL has several versions of what they want their host’s bumper shot to look like… this is just one. We invite all seniors to bring a prop, a positive attitude, and as much animation as you can muster, and let us have a bit of fun with YOUR very own bumper shot too.
