Multi day coverage of large corporate events is not for the lazy. When I’m contracted to document an event, it almost always includes one or two 15-18 hour days. That’s not “from the time I get up till the time I go to bed” days, it’s “begin shooting Yoga on the Beach at sunrise and don’t forget to cover the Midnight Madness Party” days. The first day’s coverage is usually late afternoon until early evening, but the day or days following will be an all out marathon of speakers, breakouts, meals, cocktail parties, trade shows, bus tours, 5k fun runs, and late night parties and banquets. This is my element. This is what I live for.

A race against time is coupled with the distance one usually covers over the course of an average day. Most locations are hotels, limiting me to only walking 3 1/2 to 5 miles a day. A large convention center such as the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas will have me covering 8-10 miles a day, and keep in mind, I’ll often be carrying from 10-20 lbs of gear along the way. I consider it solid training for my dream of thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail in 2020.

Last week’s convention for the Canadian division of Raymond James Financial was my second convention for them in a month. On the last night of this convention, I’d provided a 20 minute slideshow of about 200 images I’d taken during the event, and it played throughout dinner prior to their awards. It was great to see the attendee’s reactions to the images because I rarely get to know how the images are perceived beyond hearing accolades from the event coordinator.

Below are some of my favorite captures.
Enjoy!
