Australian Passport Photos
The Australian government requires its citizens living in the US to apply in person to update or renew their Australian Passport. The Australian Embassy is located in Washington, DC. Periodically, they schedule interviews to accomplish this in various cities around the country, to lighten the load in Washington, as well as make it more convenient for its citizens.
This week (Thursday & Friday, September 22nd & 23rd), they are conducting interviews in Miami, Florida. You can find info on that right here.
This has prompted a slew of calls from Australian citizens living in Central Florida and the Hillsborough/Pinellas County areas to call our studio to have their Australian passport photos taken. Australia has one of the most stringent passport specifications on the planet. According to their own statistics, over 90% of applicants who are rejected, are rejected because their Australian passport photo does not meet their stated requirements.
Don’t count on getting those photos taken at a drug store or your local auto club, they can’t do it. To begin with, it’s measured in millimeters, not inches. Secondly, the print resolution required for an Australian passport is higher than any other country on the planet. Their stated resolution is between 450-600 ppi. This takes a special kind of high resolution professional printer to accommodate that resolution. Newsome’s has TWO.
