Foreign Passport Photos
The UK British passport photo is measured in millimeters (35x45mm), much smaller than the US passport photo (2×2″ or 51x51mm).
Additionally, a passport photo for the United Kingdom requires a light grey background, not white, as the US requires.The head size in the British passport photo must fall between 29-34mm, measured from the chin to the top of the skull (not the top of the hair) – very easy for a bald man, but not so easy for Marge Simpson!
These three differences will nearly always lead to a rejection of the UK passport photo by the British Consulate, based on those who submit an image taken by the local drug store or auto club in the US. Sadly, many drug store employees have no idea what the Metric System is, or that passport photos from foreign countries are measured in millimeters, not inches. They simply assume that they provide passport photos, and everyone accepts them! NOT TRUE!
Don’t waste your time or money hoping to save a buck or two by going to the drug store for a UK or British passport photo. Convenient and cheap they may be, but guaranteed to pass muster with foreign passport offices they haven’t got a chance!
